HAYESWATCH-Week 2!

What I found out this week, was, as anyone will tell you, diabetics REALLY need to stick to a regular schedule when it comes to eating and taking there medicine. Especially eating. Fluxtations in my schedule this week caused some unexpected highs & lows in my blood sugar.
On the other front, I found out that thanks to my smoking habit, I have the cardio of a 1200 year old woman. No surprise there, so I definitely need to work on that.
Beyond that, the week was pretty good, numbers wise. Here's hoping I can keep up that trend in the upcoming week, which is going to be VERY busy for me.

What you should buy-7/31/13

As always, some great stuff out this week. First, we're actually going to start with a MOVIE, not a comic, though.
JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE FLASHPOINT PARADOX: This movie is AWESOME!!!! Seriously, watch it. Based on the world (literally) changing Flashpoint story by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert.
THE BIONIC MAN #22: Steve gets some help protecting a defecting scientist from a really odd place.
CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT #1: Spinning out the 1940's, Captain Midnight is BACK!!! But, the government isn't too happy about it.
TRINITY WAR: PANDORA #2: I gotta tell you, I love love LOVE Trinity War. It's got that old school feeling of a crossover, yet it's really fresh and new.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #24: Cityfall part 3!!!! This story is EPIC!!! It's only 3 parts in, so if you haven't gotten in yet, pick up the 2 back issues and get started!!!
GI JOE #6: The origin of COVER GIRL!!!!! What makes a fashion model join GI Joe? I mean, besides getting to hang around with Shipwreck? Find out here!

What a week!!! If you're in Chicago, I'll be at Challengers Comics + Conversation on Wednesday where we'll be having their monthly book club meeting, Chattingers. This month the book up for discussion is FLASHPOINT! Not only will we be talking about this awesome trade, we'll be watching the movie afterwards!!! Hope to see you there!

What I thought of...The Superior Spider-Man #14

The Superior Spider-Man #14: Spider-Man takes over New York!! And gets a new costume. And some new toys. A lot of new stuff going on in this issue. But, we do get to see a couple of familiar faces.
The Good: Doc Ock/Spider-Man has pretty much free reign over whatever he wants to do, thanks to a deal with Mayor J. Jonah Jameson. This issue, we're introduced to the Spider-Man ARMY. Yes, ARMY. There's Spider-Soldiers, Spider-Vehicles, Spider-Drones and much, much more. In this issue, Spider-Man sets his sights on Shadowland. And, The Kingpin. I have to admit, it's nice to see The Kingpin back in action, and Slott has the character down pat. There's a lot going on here, TONS of action and all drawn beautifully by Humberto Ramos. This is definitely a great jumping on point for new readers.
The Bad: Not really too much of the bad this issue. There's a couple of plot twists and turns that I saw coming a mile away, and at this point, the villain of the story isn't really clear. Is it Kingpin? Hobgoblin? The mystery villain that shows up on the last couple of pages? Or is it Spider-Man himself?
The Verdict: BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT!!! Again, GREAT jumping on point for new readers, and even if you're a regular reader, this is a bold, brand new chapter in Spider-Man history, and you're not going to want to miss it!!

Stuff you should buy...7/24/13

Hey! It's another week of new comics!! July is a 5 Wednesday month, and you can tell, because this week is a little light on releases. BUT, there's still good stuff to buy. Let's take a look....
Rocketeer/Spirit #1: A dream come true for fans of crossover comics. IDW & DC Comics team up to bring you this guaranteed awesome mini series! And, it's written by Mark Waid!!!
Green Hornet #4: Speaking of Mark Waid, also out this week from Dynamite Entertainment is the next issue in this terrific series. If you haven't been reading it, it's not too late to catch up, and I suggest you do it!
Justice League Dark #22: Trinity War continues! I have to admit, but I've really been enjoying Trinity War, it's good, super hero fun!
Ghostbusters #6: I'm tired of telling you to buy this book. It's funny, entertaining, and the art is awesome. And who doesn't like The Ghostbusters? BUY IT!!!
The Flash #22: I am HOOKED on this Reverse Flash story line. It's great & I highly recommend it.
Danger Girl Trinity #4: The epic conclusion to this ridiculously fun mini series. I'm VERY glad that IDW is keeping new Danger Girl stories coming!!! Trinity has been my favorite of the recent ones so far, and I can't wait to see how it's resolved.
Aquaman #22: Death of a King rolls on!!! I've been loving this story too. Geoff Johns and art by Paul Pelietier!!! What's not to love??
-As always, I'll be at Challengers Comics + Conversation, which is now THE 2013 EISNER SPIRIT OF RETAIL AWARD WINNER!!!!! If you're in or near Chicago, come by and visit the BEST STORE IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!

HAYESWATCH...Week 1

First, let me say I'm sorry, this should've been posted yesterday. But, a couple things got in the way. All right, now down to the nitty gritty. This week's progress was OK. Just OK. Not great, not bad, just OK. Here's the bullet points.
-My blood sugar has improved. Again, not great, but they're getting lower and that's good. My morning readings have gone from high 200's-mis 300's to middle 100's-low/mid 200's. Again, not GREAT by any means, but definitely an improvement.
-I exercised 3 days this week. A far cry from my goal of 5, but it's better than nothing.
-The most important thing that I did this week was start using portion control. I used to eat meals that would've been OK for a bodybuilder or professional wrestlers, now I've started eating meals that are the size that a normal human being would eat.
I've all ready started feeling better, so that's another plus. And, with the progress that I made, I'm further motivated to not only continue this, but to improve on it. Like McDavid and I always say "Ever Forward!"

Comic-Con Day 3!! And the winner is..........

MOVIES!!!!! Now, while movies win, I'm gonna have to call this a tie between DC/Warner Brothers and Marvel/Disney. BOTH had HUGE announcements that rocked the comic world when they unveiled some pretty surprising stuff. Let's start with Marvel.....
During the final moments of the Marvel Studios panel, Joss Whedon came out to announce that the next Avengers movie would be called....Avengers: Age of Ultron!!! There was even some footage shown. Here, is a description, courtesy of Super Hero Hype:

"It begins outside an alien temple. A man approaches. The Avengers footage is super quick, featuring lines from the first Avengers. Slowly, CGI images form of Ultron's face. Then the title comes up. THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON."

WOW! I can't wait!! Now, this does bring up some interesting questions. We saw Thanos in the first Avengers movie, will he play into this movie at all? How are Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch going to fit in? And what about Hank Pym? With what happened in Iron Man 3, I can easily see Tony Stark creating Ultron. I guess we'll find out in about 2 years!!
-Earlier in the day, at the DC panel, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder took to the stage to talk about the Man of Steel sequel. He revealed that the Man of Steel will costar none other than.......BATMAN!!! He then revealed the logo for the film:
Shooting is expected to begin next year for a 2015 release. No real details were revealed except that Batman WILL be recast and that the supporting cast of Man of Steel will return for the sequel.
-Boy, between Avengers 2, the Sueprman/Batman movie and Star Wars Episode VII, 2015 is going to be one hell of a summer!!!
-Besides the movie announcements, there were some great comic announcements that were made. Here's links to just a few of them.
-Top Cow revealed some big plans for their company, including a Darkness film. You can read all about that over at Comic Book Resources.
-Robert Venditti spoke about the direct that the Green Lantern books are going to take, go here to read what he had to say.
-Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo spoke about Batman: Year Zero. Check that one out at this link!
-Join me tomorrow for SDCC wrap up day 4!!!
