Well, it was only a matter of time before some of DC's New 52 titles got cancelled, but I really thought they'd try to publish all of them for at LEAST a year. No such luck as the ax is falling on six titles in April:

Men of War(fine by me)

Mister Terrific(never read it)

Static Shock(please put Scott McDaniel on something awesome)

Blackhawks(damn shame)

OMAC(it wasn't that bad)

& Hawk & Dove(NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!)

-I'm really dissapointed about Hawk & Dove, it got a bad rap right off the bat because Rob Liefeld's name was attached to it. It was a fun, nostalgic book that was really entertaining straight-forward super hero goodness. Well, at least we got 8 issues out of it. And I have to say I'm less than impressed by the six titles that are replacing it:

Batman Incorporated(Shouldn't have gone away in the first place!)

Earth 2(OK, this one I'm REALLY excited about!)

World's Finest(Huntess & Power Girl. I give it 6 issues)

Dial H(But, it's SPOOKY this time, it's GOT to work!)

GI Combat(You just cancelled 2 war books, so replacing it with another war book is a really smart move)

The Ravagers(Howard Mackie & Ian Churchill. I'm gonna put on my Hypercolor pants and play with my Tamagotchi)

-I shouldn't be this harsh, but those last 3 books seem really unnecessary. But, props to DC for taking some risks. Although I can't help but think-an Art Baltazar/Franco Captain Carrot book would be REALLY fun!

No one is more excited for the new James Bond film, Skyfall, than myself and my good friend Wendi(who you should follow on twitter at https://twitter.com/#!/DFWendi ) for her(and you)I've scoured the internet to put together everything we know so far about the new movie opening here in the US on Friday, November 9th, 2012.

First, the official Press Release about the film:

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli today presented the cast of the 23rd James Bond adventure, entitled SKYFALL. The film, from Albert R. Broccoli's Eon Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is directed by Academy Award® winner Sam Mendes and stars Daniel Craig, who returns for his third film as James Bond 007. The screenplay is written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and John Logan. SKYFALL, which goes into production on Monday, November 7th, will begin its worldwide roll-out in the UK and Ireland on October 26th 2012 and in North America on November 9th 2012.

Joining Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Director Sam Mendes were members of the cast of SKYFALL, including: Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe. The filmmakers also announced Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw.

In SKYFALL, Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

"We're so delighted to have Sam Mendes direct SKYFALL and be working once again with Daniel Craig. We've a great script, an extraordinary cast and an incredibly talented creative team for this latest James Bond adventure," said Wilson and Broccoli.

The Director of Photography is Roger Deakins, a nine-time Oscar® nominee who previously shot the films Jarhead and Revolutionary Road for Mendes. The Production Designer is Oscar® winner Dennis Gassner, who previously designed Quantum of Solace and collaborated with Mendes on the films Road to Perdition and Jarhead. The Editor is Stuart Baird, A.C.E., whose many credits include Casino Royale. Jany Temime, whose many credits include the Harry Potter series, In Bruges, and Children of Men, is the Costume Designer. Action specialist Alexander Witt is the 2nd Unit Director. Gary Powell is Stunt Co-ordinator, Chris Corbould is SFX Supervisor and Steve Begg is Visual Effects Supervisor, all of whom have worked on previous Bond films.

BIONIC MAN #2 REVIEW!!!!

To put it bluntly, this issue left me feeling a little disappointed. But, ONLY in the fact that this comic is based on a screenplay that WILL NEVER be made. Folks, if this movie would've gotten made, it would have been THE most balls-out, over-the-top, thrill-ride action movie of ANY summer. We're talking like Jurassic Park in 1993 big. But, enough about movies. Thankfully Dynamite saw fit to turn this into a comic series and we are SO lucky that they did. First, if you haven't checked out my review of issue #1, you can do so here.

-Simply put, this issue is better than the last. First issues are always all set up, so now that we know who everyone is and what they do, we can get into the real meat of the story. Like I stated in my last review, it's been awhile since I've read Kevin Smith's screenplay that this is based on, so I can't remember exactly what's been added and taken out, but WOW this issue is PACKED with story, mystery, and action. Just like EVERY comic book should be. Phil Hester does a fantastic job at pacing the story, and Jonathan Lau's art is out of control awesome. There's lots of action heavy pages in this issue. And I mean HEAVY! Yet, with Lau's art you never get the "things are happening to fast that I can't really tell what's going on" feeling that you get with some artists. Hats off to the creative team for an outstanding job.

-Most impressive about this issue, though, is the shocks and surprises that are thrown at you. You don't normally find that in licensed comics today, and TRUST ME, I'd know. Let's face it, even if you have never seen the TV show, you know what's going to happen to Steve Austin. I mean, c'mon, the book is call The Bionic Man, not The Dead Astronaut. But there are shocks, surprises and twists on almost every other page. Questions answered you didn't even know where asked, mysteries uncovered that you wouldn't see coming a mile away. This is, simply put, a fantastic comic. And the best part? We're just getting started. This issues are only going to get better. Better. Stronger. Faster.

*Footnote-As an added bonus that has absolutely NOTHING to do with The Bionic Man, this issue features a GORGEOUS double page ad for Dynamite's upcoming Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist series. First issues out in November, it's 32 pages and it's only $1.00. PRE-ORDER. IT. NOW. It looks AMAZING!!!!!!!

Comic Review-GI Joe: A Real American Hero #170

WOW! LOTS going on this issue. But then, you have to remember your're reading a comic with almost 30 years of continuity and a limitless cast of characters and villains. The thing I love about this book is that Larry Hama can still pull GI Joe mythology outta thin air. And, I guess, if anyone is allowed to, he is. But, the best thing about this title is that it's the Joes as we know and love them. In all these years, their personalities haven't changed, and neither have Cobras. There's actually a couple of laugh out loud moments from Cobra Commander here that are pretty great. I guess if I had one problem with this comic, it's that we only get about two pages at a time with each character or team and when you're dealing with this many people, it's not nearly enough. But, at least you get to see everyone you want to at least for a little bit.

-Artist S L Gallant does a great job. I don't know if it's him on his own, or from Larry Hama's scripts, but there's some great sight gags in this issue like back in the original series. Another home run issue for this book!

COBRA #5

Another great issue!!! This one's not as quite as fast-paced and action packed as the last, but still, a really good read. There's a LOT of talking heads in this book, but that's not necessarily a bad thing in this case. It's a nice catch-up as to what's gone down so far-from a certain point of view. Mike Costa keeps the dialogue quick, sharp and to the point, with a dash of character added in. We learn some new secrets and there's a couple of real "HOLY CRAP" moments in this one. We've got 3 more months before the Cobra Civil War ends, and I have a feeling that a LOT of MAJOR events haven't even started yet. These next 3 issues are going to be a lot of fun!

-I can't end this review without mentioning artist Werther Dell'Edera. A GREAT choice for this issue and honestly, he should be on a monthly GI Joe book-or ANY monthly comic book for that matter. I love Antonio Fuso, but this was a nice change of pace. Much to my surprise, COBRA is quickly becoming my favorite GI Joe monthly title.

Comic Review:COBRA #4

OK, this Cobra Civil War story is REALLY getting good. This issue is primarily a Major Bludd story, and he's one of my favorites, so I was bound to like this from the start. I love how writer Mike Costa has turned EVERY single Cobra member into a credible threat for the Joes-and also for the other members of Cobra as well. There's some BIG things that happen in this issue, so I'll try and dance around the spoilers as much as I can.

-We get PLENTY of action, not just talking in this issue. We also get to see the slightest glimpse of Bludd's personal life and just how incredible different that is. Costa does a great issue continually showing just how dangerous Bludd is, who he's in league with and who he controls. At this point in the game, I really have no clue just who will end up being Cobra Commander when the war is over and the dust is settled.

-The art chores in this issue is split between series artist Antonio Fuso & Chee. I'll admit, I've never seen Chee's artwork before, but it's really nice. Totally fits the book. Overall, this issue really picks up the pace of the whole CCW story and really gets you excited for what's coming next. BUY IT!!

HOLY CAP!!!

NO, that's not a mistake. I meant HOLY CAP!!! As in Captain America! Just announced today, the two 1979 Captain America made for TV movies are being released on DVD on October 18th. As a 6 year old kid watching these, I thought they were the COOLEST thing I'd ever seen(next to the Six Million Dollar Man)and are actually what made me start reading Captain America comics. Will the movies hold up 30 years later? Um.....I'll let you be the judge.

FINALLY!!! One of the coolest cartoon shows every is coming to DVD!!! I've been waiting for this once for quite awhile! In 1983, in my small town in Wisconsin, the local arcade got in this game and it BLEW MY MIND!!!! I mean, you were PLAYING a CARTOON!!! And a freaking AWESOME cartoon, at that! It had everything-a knight, a castle, a dragon, an evil knight, creatures that I had NO idea what they were supposed to be and the icing on the cake? It had a blond princess with HUGE...um.......

Anyway, I spent MANY MANY quarters trying to beat this game. Never did until YEARS later when I played it on a DVD. The game was so popular that it spawned a sequel, and a companion title called Space Ace and, most importantly, and awesome Saturday morning cartoon. Just take a peak......

-OK, so when you compare it to the game, it's not quite as awesomely animated. But still. Now, thanks to Warner Brothers Manufacture On Demand program, you can own the whole series on DVD. Not sure when it's coming out, but usually when Warner MOD announces something, it's out within a few weeks. But, thanks to the TV Shows on DVD site, you can get a look at the box art for the series.

PICK IT UP!!!!....and did I mention that I wrote a back-up story for the comic book? You should pick that up too.

GHOSTBUSTERS #1 REVIEW!!

Even though it's not out for about 3 weeks yet, I was lucky enought to read a copy of IDW Publishing's Ghostbusters #1 this evening. Written by Erik Burnham, who doesn't write enough comics(seriously, check out A-Team War Stories), with a back-up story by Tristan Jones, and edited by Tom Waltz (If you haven't read his new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles book yet, do it NOW!) the thing that will have EVERY "Ghosthead" cheering is that artist Dan Schoening is drawing this book. Schoening was every fans dream choice for penciler on this series, and IDW made the right choice.

-Now, I'm not about to give spoilers away in this review, so just wipe that thought outta your head. What I WILL tell you, is that we get to see the Ghostbusters do EVERYTHING that you want to see them doing. Hanging out in the firehouse exchanging snappy dialogue, investigating the paranormal, and yes, even busting some ghosts. It's got it all. We all know that Ghostbusters is one of the most quotable movies in history and quite often, with licensed comics, writers rely on movie dialogue as a crutch by going out of their way to put the characters in a position just so they can deliver that "classic" line from the movie that everyone loved. Thankfully, Burnham does NOT fall into that trap here. There's no "Nice shootin' Tex", "He slimed me" or "cats and dogs living together". What Burnham DOES capture is the spirit of the characters, dead on. As you read the comic, you can actually hear Bill Murray saying the Venkman dialogue. The story acknowledges the movies, but doesn't depend on them. There's nice nods to both Ghostbusters movies, and a couple of Easter eggs that hardcore fans will go nuts over. And the last page? EPIC.

-As far as the art goes, the word PERFECT comes to mind. Schoening is THE best Ghostbuster artist out there today. Or any other day, for that matter. You know how Carmine Infantino was born to draw The Flash? Or Mark Bagley was born to draw Spider-Man? Yeah, that's what we're talking about here, people. It's THAT good.

-It's hard to talk about the back-up story without giving up a big spoiler, so I'll just say this-it'll have you APPLAUDING when you read it. Hat's off to Tristan Jones, who is a heck of a talented guy.

-The thing that impressed me the most about this book was the "bonus" pages in the back. You can see just HOW MUCH work went into the comic and how deep the love is that the creators have for this property. And, it shows. In a big way. Whether your a HUGE Ghostbusters fan, or have just a passing interest after seeing the movie a couple of times on TV, you will LOVE this book. Hat's off to everyone involved for making THE. BEST. GHOSTBUSTERS. COMIC. EVER.

Oh my God! Quasar!!!

Stumbled on a tweet last night from the good folks at Cosmic Book News. Seems Amazon is listing a Classic Quasar trade paperback for sale on March 7th, 2012. It collects Quasar 1-9, as well as material from Avengers Annual 18 & Marvel Comic Presents(1988)#29. I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book when I was a kid.

HAWK!! DOVE!!!

This week, DC has 11 new #1's to choose from. From Action Comics #1 to Detective Comics #1, there is literally SOMETHING for EVERYONE. But, the one I'm over the moon excited for is Hawk & Dove #1 from Sterling Gates & Rob Liefeld. I mean, how can you NOT be excited for this title? Just look:

Pretty freaking cool, right? OK, for those of you who are too young to remember Liefeld's FIRST Hawk & Dove series, let me take you back. The year was 1988. On the radio(yes radio), we were listening to things like this:

And we even had our own "MMMBop" back then:

-On a bike ride to the grocery store, I saw this comic, and I was INSTANTLY hooked!!!

-I wasn't sure who exactly they were, but I had to read it. I read that issue 7 times that first day alone. Thanks to the Kesels & this Liefeld kid, I was hooked! After the initial run of the series, Hawk died. Dove died-kinda. There was a rock band Hawk & Dove, then they were girls in the Teen Titans, then DC got sick of reading my letters and in Brightest Day brought back Hank Hall and Dawn Granger and finally-I was happy again. It was stated early on that not everyone would make it through the Brightest Day series and from the moment they announced that, I was sure that Hank would die again. BUT, here we are. 2 days away from one of the comics that I'm most looking forward to EVER!!! Now, I know that a lot of people are saying that this whole DC relaunch feels too much like the 90's. Um, guys. You know what happened in the 90's? PEOPLE BOUGHT A SHITLOAD OF COMICS!!!! HOW is that a bad thing? I feel like I'm 15 years old again. But, I'm still not listening to Don't Worry,Be Happy.

GI Joe A Real American Hero #169 review

This is TRULY the most under appreciated of the GI Joe titles being published right now. Around 2004 Devil's Due got Larry Hama to write a 4 issue GI Joe Frontline arc set after the events of original Marvel Comic GI Joe #155. The results were........not that great.

-But, in May of last year, IDW let Larry Hama do what he should've done 16 years earlier-keep writing the same comic. The results this time around-REALLY AWESOME.

-While the current GI Joe IDW continuity is a fun, action packed, breath of fresh air, it's nice that you CAN go home again. This issue-and title-features exactly what the classic GI Joe series had. GI Joe against COBRA, the enemy. Fighting to save the day. There's TONS of continuity with the classic series, but don't worry, IDW had been kind enough to reprint those all in trade(their maybe 1 or 2 more volumes coming before the complete run is collected). Who thought that anyone could put NEW twists and turns into an almost 30 year old comic? This issue is FULL of them. Old characters return, new mysteries are set up, and while it features a good number of Joes(& COBRAS), there's never too many that it gets confusing. One of the advantages is that they're all instantly recognizable because they're drawn in their classic fatigues/action figure uniforms. Most of which, surprisingly, still work. Their is one exception, though. Sorry, Crystal Ball.

It's not often that I pay attention to something in the comic market that's not an established character or a licensed property. But, a recent article/announcement over at CBR sparked my interest.

-Spinning out of Kirby:Genesis, Sterling Gates, Wagner Reis, & Dynamite Entertainment is bringing back the REALLY forgotten comic book series Captain Victory & His Galactic Rangers. While I've never read the original series, published in the 90's, I believe, I AM looking forward to this. WHY? Cause it looks like a DAMN FUN comic book. Go ahead, click the link above and read the interview. I'll wait....

-You should all definately check this out. For two reasons-Kirby:Genesis is a highly underrated and is REALLY fun and two-this looks like a great, fun, sci-fi, all out action comic. PRE-ORDER!!!

Let's face it, nobody really pays attention to Canada. Hell, even Canadians don't pay that much attention to Canada. BUT, over the weekend at Fan Expo in Toronto, Marvel Comics held a "Next Big Thing" panel and announced several things, but only 1 was downright AWESOME. The return of former Crossgen comic Kiss Kiss Bang Bang!!!

-As a huge fan of that series, that ended on one of the BEST cliffhangers ever, I was needless to say, ecstatic! Then, I read the article on CBR with writer Peter Milligan....and became even MORE excited!!! The basic premise is sort-of the same. Up and coming spy gets chosen to replace veteran spy in his role as the "Ultimate Spy". BUT, while the first series took place in the 1960's/Sean Connery/James Bond era this one takes place in modern day and puts some twists into the formula. What it looks like it DOES deliver is something that's sorely lacking in the comic market right now-A. SPY. COMIC. How does one of THE most popular genres in pop culture not have an on-going monthly comic? Talk about built in audience!!! And not just for the every-Wednesday guys. Dads bringing their kids into the comic store would snatch this up in a heartbeat!!! Wanna buy a comic for a non-comic reading friend? BOOM!!!! Anyone who likes action movies, thrillers, ect would totally dig a well written spy comic. OK, enough about that. Back to KKBB. I'll be honest, I haven't read much Peter Milligan, but what I have read, I've liked a lot(Human Target, X-Statix, Batman). And from reading his interview, I couldn't be more excited about his plans for this comic. As for the art, I barely remember Roman Rosanas' work on Spider-Man:1602, but the pages shown in the article look FANTASTIC!!!! This guy knows how to lay out a page. Intense action that's NOT super hero battles can be tricky sometimes, but this guy pulls it off in the preview pages.....and he draws some nice ass cleavage. Can't wait til December!!! Merry Christmas Jimmy Hayes!!

Snake Eyes #4 Review

After a slightly disappointing issue #3, Chuck Dixon and Robert Atkins decided to kick my ass with issue 4 of Snake Eyes. THIS is why I read GI Joe comics. Scratch that, this is why I read COMICS!!! Holy crap, this was awesome!!! First off, you have Snake Eyes vs Slice & Dice. That should be enough to sell you on the book right there. You have GOT to see(read)this fight to believe it. I will go to my grave saying that Atkins draws THE best fights in comics. It's like reading an action movie. Then, you've got the Alpine/Iceberg story line which actually has a decent amount of action and resolves very nicely.

-The part I'm most impressed about is that while the COBRA Civil War story is present, it never feels like it overtakes the issue or story at any point. It's in the background, keeping you up to date and giving you just what you need to know, but never too much or taking the focus off the ass-kicking ninjas. This is, without a doubt, my favorite issue of the series so far. Yo Joe!!

Snake Eyes #3 Review

First off, my apologies to everyone that this is a month behind. That said, Snake Eyes #3 was my least favorite issue of the series so far. Don't get me wrong, it's still a Snake Eyes comic, which makes it GREAT. But, I'm afraid this issue left me feeling like I was reading "Snake Eyes & His Amazing Friends". Chuck Dixon does a fine job with the story, I can't imagine how hard it is to write a character that doesn't speak. He does a good job of not falling into the "Lassie trap" of another character saying "What's that Snake Eyes? Cobra's put together a new weather dominater and we need to go Cobra Island?" but, because everyone ELSE has to do the talking to move the store forward, we're left with less Snake Eyes that we should have. The art, as always, is fantastic. At this point if Robert Atkins put out a book of blank pages, I'd probably buy it. Don't get me wrong, this WAS a good comic with a sold story that's heating up. It's just not a great SNAKE EYES comic.

Who will save you now?

Yesterday Dynamite Entertainment released their November solicitations and low and behold, after months of waiting, they officially announced their Flash Gordon comic series, Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist! Written by Vampirella & Red Sonja scribe Eric Trautmann with art by Sherlock Holmes: Year One artist Daniel Lindro. People who know me know that I am the world's biggest Flash Gordon fan. People who don't know me, will soon find that out. Here's what Dynamite says about the book:

"The year is 1934, a time of two-fisted swashbuckling, of fearsome threats and wild adventure -- and of ever-growing threats on the horizon. Three valiant humans -- Flash Gordon, Dale Arden and Dr. Hans Zarkov -- are plucked from the Earth, traveling to the distant planet Mongo. Their exploits are legendary, battling the machinations and terror schemes of the dreaded emperor Ming, the All-Seeing Ruler of Mongo. But they did not fight alone..."

-Pretty exciting stuff! I'm impressed that the story is set in 1934. I was a little scared that they were going to totally reinvent the property and make Flash an Extreme Sports star, Dale a wise-cracking TMZ reporter and Dr. Zarkov some kind of eco-conspiracy theory scientist. Nice to see that they're staying true to the property. And I bet the book will excell because of it.

-And yes, if you know me, you're assuming there will be some kind of celebration/promotion/event regarding the release of this book and you'd be 1000% right! More details to come soonish.

This week IDW Publishing released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1. When I was younger, I loved the original series, and then I loved the Archie Comics series, but ever since then Turtle comics haven't really grabbed me. I think, honestly, there was too much sci-fi elements in later series. To me, the turtles should always be in the sewers of New York City, not flying around space with human dinosaurs.

-Back to the issue(literally)at hand. To put it bluntly, does anyone have Tom Waltz's address? I wanna buy that man a beer. When I first heard that IDW was bringing Kevin Eastman in to work on the book, I thought "hmm. Interesteing." OK, that's a total lie. The FIRST thing I thought about was "Kevin Eastman? Is he still married to Julie Strain? Man, she had awesome boobs." BACK to TMNT #1. THIS is what a Turtle comic SHOULD be. Everything is here that should be here. The Turtles, April, Casey, Baxter Stockman, pizza and Krang. YEAH. KRANG. This is a GREAT set-up for the series. Everyone is introduced in a manner that is not at all forced, and yet gives you plenty of back story, plot and set-up to get the series moving nicely. I have to be honest, I've never heard of Dan Duncan, but this guy was born to draw this book. He's got a great style that's gritty when it needs to be and smooth and clean when it's called for. IDW & the creative team have really outdone themselves. DO NOT wait for the trade on this one. Go buy it NOW!!!!....and Tom, seriously, you're gettin' that beer when I see you.

Bionic Man #1 Review

The last time Colonel Steve Austin was published in comic book form was in June of 1978. 33 years later, Dynamite Entertainment brings him back in The Bionic Man #1. Ladies & Gentlemen-it was worth the wait. For those of you expecting Steve Austin to be full on bionic in this issue, you'll be a little disappointed. But, that's about the only thing that's lacking in this first issue. Dynamite made a spectacular desicion by putting their A-Team of Phil Hester & Jonathan Lau on this book. The team did a fantastic job adapting Kevin Smith's Green Hornet screenplay into a fun, action-packed and all around excellent comic, and to no one's surprise, they do the same thing here.

-In the first issue we're introduced to all the main characters & villians. One of the things that impressed me most about the book was that the villian is actually a SUPER villian. Not a guy in a suit or a bad guy with an eye patch and a grugde that is common in modern day comics. He's totally evil, and he's got what looks to be some sort of bionic powers of his own. There's some great set up for the villian's motivation,while not giving everything away yet. Your definately left wondering just what the villian's motivation is and where he came from.

-If I'd have to pick a favorite aspect of the book, it would be the characterization of Steve Austin himself. Smith & Hester do a fantastic job of giving Steve a real personality and not just making him a Hal Jordon or Maverick from Top Gun clone. He's got the right amount of cockiness, swagger and heart. In a surprising twist(tiny spoiler alert)Jamie Summers is also introduced in this first issue as Steve's fiancee. And don't worry, Oscar and Rudy are back, and as charming as ever.

-My hat's off to artist Jonathan Lau for making the action in this book SO kinetic. Flight scenese are really tough to pull off in comics, but Lau really makes the most of his panels without dragging it out for page after page.

-All in all, this was a GREAT first issue. Very excessable to any new reader that's not been exposed to the franchise and yet familiar enough to make long time fans of the property feel like they're taking a trip home to visit old friends. I honestly can't recommend this book highly enough. Put on your red track suit and RUN down to your local comic store and pick this up right away!!!!

...with an awesome toy car. Ever since September 26th, 1982 I've wanted an awesome Knight Rider toy. Now, courtesy of Diamond Select Toys, it looks like I'm getting a COUPLE. First, here's their offering from their ever popular Minimates line.
Now that's one funky-bad ass toy. I BELIEVE that DST is also going to release KARR with Garthe Knight figure. And he better damn well come with a cane, too! BUT, I'm most excited about this:
A decent 3&3/4 inch Michael Knight with KITT figure!!! Just look at that giant pie-pan belt buckle!!!! I'm guessing these toys will be out either the end of this year, or the beginningh of next year. GI Joe vol 2 #2 Review

I know it's only 2 issues in, but GI Joe keeps getting better with each issue!!! This one is a straight-out, hit the ground running action/mystery that totally delivers. We've got the Joe's under siege in the PITT looking for.........we're not exactly sure. We've got Gen. Hawk & Dial Tone on the run in Washington, DC. And we've got Storm Shadow in the PITT, waiting to unleash ninja badassery on the GI Joe team. Chuck Dixon must've read my review of GI Joe #1, because there's a TON more GI Joes in this issue then there was in the last. At first I really thought I wasn't going to like the fact that Cobra soldiers aren't often seen as they were portrayed in previous comics-in full on Cobra gear, like a standard army. But, it's really working . They're now seen as a modern day terrorist organization-everywhere. Doing really bad things. There's not much going on in this issue that moves the Cobra Civil War storyline forward, but that's OK. Leave that for the Cobra book.
Verdict: Even better than the last issue! Buy it!!

Book Report: COBRA #1

Let's be honest, the GI Joe team always beats Cobra. In the comic book world, however, Cobra may have just won the battle. Released this week, Cobra #1 is, from start to finish, everything you could want in a comic book featuring almost exclusively-bad guys. It's very easy, and pretty much now the norm, for comics starring villains to portray the villains as misunderstood heroes and make the audience sympathize with them. That is not the case here. The Cobra agents are EVIL people and pull out all the stops to claim the ultimate prize-becoming the new Cobra Commander. Writer Mike Costa handles the story very well, while throwing in a ton of nice-OK, not really NICE-character moments. And I have to be honest, while I've never been a fan of Antonio Fuso's art in the past, he really hits it with this book. The only drawback? You really need to be reading GI Joe to get the full story of what's going on in this issue.

Flash Gordon: Invasion of the Red Sword #2 Review

-It's getting hard to keep writing good stuff about this comic. In this second chapter of Arddens's second Flash Gordon mini series, the story gets moving. Not to say that it didn't hit the ground running in the first issue, but this issue really picks up the pace. Tremendously. I hear a lot of complaints about the price of comics, but story-wise, writer Brenden Deneen packs about six months worth of a Marvel comic into this one issue of Flash Gordon. There's massive amounts of cliffhangers, a great many mysteries are set up, and the team of Brenden Deneen and artist Eduardo Garcia have really hit a home run with this series. Remember how comics used to have you holding your breath when you were a kid? Yeah, it's like that.
10 out of 10!!!!

Snake Eyes #1 Review

Who's the most bad-ass character in comic book history? Right. Wolverine. Who would somebody send to kill Wolverine? Snake Eyes. Yes, that's how formidalbe Snake Eyes is. So, why is it we're just getting a solo Snake Eyes series now, in 2011, almost 30 years after his action figure debut? I can't answer that. BUT, when I can tell you is that it's worth the wait.
-You get exactly what you'd expect and what you'd want from a Snake Eyes comic-ninja moves & awesomeness. I'm not sure time-line wise where this book fits in. It flashes back to Cobra Civil War #0, but I'm guessing it takes place before last week's GI Joe #1, due to spoilerish reasons that I won't get into. We join Snake Eyes, Helix, Alpine and Iceberg on a mission to find an enemy that is holed up in a really remote arctic area. And best of all? You get to see Snake Eyes being Snake Eyes. I really don't know if it was writer Chuck Dixon or artist Robert Atkins that choreographed the action, but whoever did, deserves a salute. It's never confusing, and always entertaining. The only thing I didn't really care for in this issue was the art in the flashback sequences. Yikes.
-I give this issue 4 out of 4 (ninja throwing)stars!

A new Remo Williams comic.

-A cop is framed for a crime he didn't commit. His death is faked by a secret government organization. He is trained by an awesome Korean man. They have ass-kicking adventures.
Seems pretty simple, doesn't it? Almost MADE for a comic book. Yet, the Destroyer only had a handful of comics published about him, by Marvel, in the late '80's and early '90's. With companies that EXCEL at licensed properties in business today, I'm sure IDW, Dynamite, or anyone would make great new Destroyer comics. My dream creative team? Chuck Dixon writing with Walter Simonson on pencils. Now THAT would be AWESOME!!!

GI Joe #0 review-COBRA CIVIL WAR!!!!

This comic is basically 3 original previews of IDW's upcoming GI Joe line which includes, GI Joe, COBRA and the new Snake Eyes ongoing series. AND IT'S AWESOME! First, we get the GI Joe preview featuring a team of Joe's investigating the abandoned town of Springfield. No spoilers, but it's explosive and introduces a new villain into the GI Joe brand. I can't wait to get his action figure.
Next up, we head over to see what the good, I mean nasty, folks at COBRA are up to. This story is probably the most interesting. For those not following along, Chuckles killed COBRA Commander. Yes, you read that right, CHUCKLES killed Cobra Commander. So, it seems that the folks behind Cobra want to hold a "contest" of sorts. The one who deals the biggest blow to the GI Joe team becomes the new Cobra Commander. It sets up who's in the running and hints at their plans for attacking the Joes.
-Next up, is the Snake Eyes story. I'm going to say it's the weakest of the three, just because there's not enough Snake Eyes in it. It does set up the on-going Snake Eyes book nicely,though. And I'm very glad that Robert Atkins in the artist in the regular Snake Eyes book.
VERDICT: Buy it....NOW!!! Seriously, it's a great read. Nice art and even though it's 3 totally different stories, they all flow seamlessly into the next.

Ghostbusters Infestation #1 Review

OK, let's get this out of the way first thing. I. HATE. ZOMBIES. Passionately and completely. I realize that I'm going against the grain of comic book & pop culture, but I'd rather watch-well, almost ANYTHING ELSE in the world, than zombies. Having said that, I was looking forward to this Infestation comic the most, because zombies would fit most naturally into the world of the Ghostbusters franchise. And, in short, I was NOT disappointed.
-First, let's talk about the story. Writer Erik Burnham manages NOT to fall into the trap that a lot of other writers of Ghostbusters comics do-and that is finding a way to write their favorite line of dialogue from the films into the comic. Erik, next time I see you, you're getting a Crunch bar. You...you've earned it.(See what I did there?)This comic could very well NOT be a part of the Infestation storyline and it would still be an awesome Ghostbusters comic. Characters are written true to their..well...character, plot moves along at a nice place, we get to see everyone we love, and the ending? I'm not going to spoil it, but AW YEAH!!!
-The art: I've never been a Kyle Hotz fan, but he did some nice work on this. Well played.
Final verdict: BUY IT!

Knowing IS Half the Battle

So, late last night, it was announced that Jon Chu will direct next years GI Joe 2. On paper, I thought that this was a horrible idea. The man most recently directed....well, you know. I'm not going to actually type the words here, because I don't want to get swarmed by teenage girls and spambots. Before that he directed Step Up 2 & 3 and another dance movie. Pretty ballsy choice, Paramount. Not that a director cant' switch genres and be good, but still. C'mon. Dude. He's makes DANCE movies.
Then, Mr. Jon Chu opened his mouth(to MTV) .
“‘Joe’ is something I’ve loved since I was a kid,I still think there’s a movie out there that can be done for the real ‘Joe’ fans, the one we’ve been waiting for that hasn’t been done before.”
-OK, dude. You've got my attention. I'm one of the few people who liked-all right, LOVED-GI Joe:The Rise of Cobra. But I still can't help but feel there was some missed opportunities with that film. The one that stands out most in my mind-Zartan should've had a costume. At LEAST a hood. Then he talked more, this time to moviehole:
“I am trying to figure that out right now. I have a bunch of stuff written down. I have done a bunch of drawings and things. We’ll have to see where that goes. Joe, to me, is iconic. It is as American as Coke and the Boy Scouts. To have that kind of history in a brand is so rare these days. And that is so powerful. So you can’t treat Joe like its just another action movie. You can’t treat Joe as just another petty commercial movie. Joe has history. Joe has always been a part of what America is, and now the world. What it means to be a leader and a hero. For me, it is about the fun stuff like Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes, and all the gadgets. All of that stuff. But it has heart. Its heart is what America, and what heroes and leaders around the world, strive to be. I think that is what the brand needs. It needs the respect to be treated in that way.”
-And suddenly, I'm a huge Jon Chu fan. If this guy puts HALF as much enthusiasm into the movie as he has in that statement, it's going to be great. And the script by the writers of Zombieland(Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick) can't hurt either. There's rumor of recasting a couple of the main roles(Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Sienna Miller)and I think I'm OK with that. As long as the replacements are good. Bottom line, I just hope it's a good GI Joe movie. That's not too much to ask, is it? Oh, and also-Serpentor.

A hot Wonder Woman...could work.

Word came flying in later today that actress Adrianne Palicki has been in cast as Dianna Prince/Wonder Woman in David E. Kelly's Wonder Woman pilot for NBC. The press release describes the pilot as:

"The series pilot is a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman – a.k.a. Diana Prince – is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life."

-Not ridiculously too far from the comics material. Although Wonder Woman has mostly been based in Washington, D.C.(when she's in the US), I don't see her being in Los Angeles as a game-changer. I'm not bothered by Dianna Prince being a corporate executive, either. And from the looks of the shows star, she could pretty much be reading the phone book in the Wonder Woman costume and I'm not really gonna care.

I'm gonna TRY and be as spoiler-free as I can in this. Here's the solicitation copy, from Ardden Entertainment:

Meanwhile, Prince Barin, King Thun and Prince Vultan are hard at work trying to create a peaceful new environment on Mongo. However, when a mysterious group of Earth soldiers violently invade the planet, our heroes are separated and must band together once again to save the lives of every race on Mongo!"

-THE GOOD: EVERYTHING! And really, that about sums it up. One of my favorite hooks in this comic *SPOILER* is that Mongo's Global Translator breaks, causing Flash and his team to not be able to speak to each other. And instead of falling into "Lassie" mode(where one character speaks, and the other impossibly knows that there's a bridge out up ahead), the characters actually communicate through different means and actually are able to pick up bits and pieces of each others language. Brilliant!!!
-For the most part, I just couldn't get over how much F-U-N this comic was. Writer Brenden Deneen has got the characterization down pat. His best work is with the character of Flash Gordon himself. Just a decent, good guy hero. There are NONE of them in comics right now. There's no angst, no "I wish I wasn't in this situation" thing going on, he's just a guy trying to help people. Let's face it, how many people REALLY know the Flash Gordon characters beyond what they've seen in the 1980 movie or the 1979 Filmation cartoon? Yeah, not that many. The writing familiarizes the reader with the characters in about 2 pages and you feel like you've been reading this for years. VERY well done!! In the art department, Eduardo Garcia steps up to the plate and does a SPECTACULAR job. No complaints.
THE BAD: Well, this book was supposed to be out last October. OCTOBER. Yes, "Raise Your Glass" by Pink was on the radio, the San Franciso Giants were on their way to becoming World Series champs and......OK, it's not "Battle Chasers" late, but still. That's a 4 month wait.
THE VERDICT: BUY IT!!! NOW!!! GO!!!

Could Yvonne Strahovski be Ms. Marvel?

-My take: This could be a 50/50 chance. Joss Whedon is know for casting "nerd friendly" girls in his stuff. And, she definitely could pull this off. She's not a "big enough" star that she wouldn't sign on for 3 or 6 or however many movies Marvel/Disney will want her to sign for. And the fans will GO NUTS. If true, well played. But, it's not just ANY book. After 2009's less than awesome Devil May Care by Sebastian Faulks, I was looking forward to a new Bond novel by ANYONE ELSE, and Flemming Publications did not disappoint by choosing Jeffery Deaver to pen not just any Bond novel, but basically a reboot of the literary Bond.

“The book will be set in mid-2011, which is when the book will be coming out. Bond is a 29- or 30-year-old agent for British security, doing what he did in the original books. And he will be a veteran of the military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan. You’ll see the cast of characters readers are familiar with – Miss Moneypenny and M – but updated for the present day.”

The new James Bond book, due to be published later this year and written by best-selling thriller writer Jeffery Deaver, is to be called Carte Blanche. Its title and cover artwork are unveiled today (Monday 17th January), at a special launch event at the InterContinental Hotel in Dubai.

Like Fleming, Jeffery Deaver takes inspiration from exotic locations around the world, and after visiting Dubai for the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature last year he decided to set part of Carte Blanche in the United Arab Emirates City.

Carte Blanche is due to be published by Hodder and Stoughton in the UK, a few days before Fleming’s birthday, on 26th May 2011. It has been commissioned by Ian Fleming Publications Ltd.

"Originally from Chicago Maria Hill joined SHIELD and rose to the position of commander. After Colonel Nicholas Fury's "Secret War" Maria was chosen to be director of SHIELD by the President himself after he commended her on her work while she was stationed on assignment in Madripoor. Although many others who she herself admitted were better suited for position were not considered for directorship she was assigned director. It has emerged that Maria was chosen as the other candidates were "Fury Loyalists" and SHIELD needed "new direction".

At first Hill had her differences with Iron Man (Tony Stark) and the New Avengers. Mainly due to the fact they withheld information on the "House of M" event leading to "M-Day". After Hill arrested Spider-Man, unmasked him and used SHIELD psychics agents to probe his mind for information regarding the "House of M" events, Maria redeemed herself to them by not following the presidents advice and bombing the island of Genosha to disable a current threat as the Avengers were present at the time.

Before the "Superhuman Registration Act" was passed as law, Hill met with Captain America (Steve Rogers) aboard the helicarrier and proposed that he lead the Avengers within the law and arrest anyone who would not comply. Captain America declined her offer, stating that he would not arrest people who risk their lives for their country every day of the week. Upon his failure to comply Hill ordered her superhuman response team or "cape killers" to tranquilize Captain America. During the scuffle Rogers avoided being tranquilized and escaped becoming the de facto leader of the Secret Avengers.

After the "Civil War" had ended Hill stepped down as directer giving the position to Iron Man Tony Stark and has resumed her duties as commander for SHIELD."

After reading the Robot 6 column this morning, I was really glad that SOMEONE put down into words, what' I've been saying most of my adult life.

But if you hate something, just throw it away, don’t buy it again and move on. We spend way too much time tearing shit down. I just want to try the other direction for a while.”

God Bless you, Steve Niles. People who know me, know that I am the eternal optimist. I love everything. Except cheese, I really hate that awful, awful food. But here's my point WHY bother "tearing shit down" SO MUCH? What good is it really doing? I'd MUCH rather tell everyone I know about an awesome comic/movie/tv show that I've experienced than tell someone how stupid they are for liking something that I think is "inferior". You know what you get when you do that? Resentment. I've seen FIRST HAND people come into a store, totally over the moon excited for a comic that was coming out today, only to have a co-worker tell them "Oh my God, I don't believe you still read this! All Marvel & DC put out is corporate shit that's all based on whatever movie or TV project that they have going on!". Really? 1)You just broke that person's heart and 2)You're an asshole.
-Let's get this straight. I'm not a fan of Vertigo comics. At all. When people would come up to me and ask me for a good Vertigo book, my standard answer was "Look, I'm really not the guy to answer that questions. I can tell you what's popular with the other customers, but I don't really read the line. If your interested, I can show you some things that I do recommend, though." and if someone came up with a book that I didn't care for I'd challenge them to convince me to read it and give it another chance. SOMETIMES(Astounding Wolf-Man) they were right.
-The bottom line is this. It's very easy to tear something down. Building something up takes MUCH more effort. I prefer to build things.....like giant robots made of cardboard. ;)

OK, we're not talking about THAT Flash for once(But I WILL be talking about him SOON). Today is about FLASHPOINT and how excited that I am for it.
-When I was a kid, I clung right away to Spider-Man, Batman, Captain America & all those guys. I was primarily a Marvel kid. Marvel did a GREAT job of intertwining their comics in those days, so that characters would jump in & out of other characters books almost on a monthly basis. But, DC really didn't do that too often. The way I learned about the "second tier" DC heroes was the same way everyone else did-the Super Friends cartoon.
-Then, when I was 10 years old, I happened across The Trail of The Flash and fell in love with the character, in no small part to Carmine Infantino's artwork.
-Today, DC Comics revealed(most)details about this years FLASHPOINT line-wide crossover focusing on The Flash.

In addition to the 5 part Flashpoint title, there will be several important one-shots and FIFTEEN mini-series. FIFTEEN. I've never suffered from "Event Fatigue", and as long as the stories are good, nobody should. BRING IT ON!!!!

Actually, I really didn't. This was something that I always meant to start doing again, but to be honest, for the past 2 years or so, I've been depressed. Not deep, soul-crushing depression, just kind of "the blahs". Most of it due to what I want to do with my life. And while I still haven't figured that out, I'm beginning to feel a little better about the options that I have.
-First off, I've decided to take a class. The teacher is a friend of mine and it's something that I've been meaning to do since last April. Starts in March. Can't wait!

And I'm OK with that. I think I'm kinda over the Spider-Man movies at this point. I liked the first, didn't like the second and I thought the 3rd was just OK, nothing special. I just think that the Spider-man movies never achieved the level of AWESOMENESS that they could/should have. I'll be content with the comics and the cartoon right now. I'm sure #4 will get made eventually and I'm sure it'll be a hit, but right now I'm more excited about comic book movies featuring Thor, Captain America and the Avengers. Bring on something NEW!!!

FINALLY!!!! May brings a new Buck Rogers comic!! It was announced LAST YEAR, and I've been waiting for this ever since! Published by Dynamite Entertainment, written by Scott Beatty and art by Carlos Rafael. And the first issue is just .25¢. Sound pretty good so far. Scott Beatty spoke to Comic Book Resources about the book recently, and after reading the interview, I'm damned excited.
-Yes, I'm a big fan of Flash Gordon too, but Buck Rogers will always be my favorite. Due in large part to the 1979 TV Series. Do I wish the upcoming comic was a little more like the TV show? Sure. But I'm still really excited about it. I'm even going to throw my first "Launch Party" at the store! Maybe even a midnight opening and some other awesome stuff.
-I've also come across some AWESOME Buck Rogers art by a guy on Deviantart. Wait, it's too good to cram into this post. I'll do another story on him soon. (Hopefully)Look for an interview with Scott Beatty soon here and over at work's website!

Dark Horse announced at NYCC today the newest on-going Star Wars comic: Star Wars:Invasion! Set 25 yeas after the first movie, the series deal with the invading Yuuzhan Vong and their, well, Invasion of the Star Wars galaxy. This book is going to be SO COOL!!! The series will feature new characters, but orginal trilogy characters will be making appearances. AWESOME!

SO excited over this! 12 inch figures, 6 inch figures based on the movies AND new figures based on The Real Ghostbusters! According to reports, Martin Campbell(Goldeneye, Casino Royale)is set to direct a Green Lantern movie. This is GREAT news. I just hope it's Hal. Never was a Kyle or John Stewart fan AT ALL. I wouldn't mind if they were IN it, just don't want it focusing on them. Plus, a Guy Gardner cameo would be awesome!

-WOW!!! It's all I wanted and more! The "Power Ranger"suits don't bother me AT ALL. Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow look OUTRAGEOUS!....as they should and at this point I'd watch the Baroness read the phone book for 90 minutes. REALLY impressed and REALLY happy! YO JOE!

Just read this story over at Aintitcol.com and FLIPPED OUT!!!! As anyone can tell, you I am THE world's biggest A-Team fan. I thought that after Singleton dropped out, it'd be back to development hell for my favorite TV-Show that would make an AWESOME movie, but apparently FOX is really serious about getting the movie done. I think Carnahan is a MUCH better choice than John Singleton and I'm sure anyone that saw Smokin' Aces will agree with me. And Ridly & Tony Scott producing? THANK YOU GOD!!!! This movie is gonna be all bullets and wise-cracks-just like it should be. The only icing on the cake would be if they can get Bruce Willis to play Hannibal. The release date of June, 11, 2010 is closer than you'd think, so I hope things move fast and some casting is announced soon. Besides Bruce Willis for Hannibal, I really can't think of anyone that I'd like to see play B.A., Face and Murdock, but IF the character of Amy Allen is in the movie, I'd love to see her played by...............................MS. MEGAN FOX!!!

So, it looks like Chuck will find his dad and it'll be Dr. Sam Beckett!! I'm getting SUPER excited about this show again, just read this description from NBC.com:

"Golden Globe Award-winning actor Scott Bakula ("Quantum Leap") will guest star as Chuck and Ellie's (Zachary Levi and Sarah Lancaster) estranged dad on NBC's action-comedy series "Chuck" (Mondays, 8-9 p.m. ET) in a multi-episode arc scheduled for broadcast later this spring.

In the storyline, Chuck made a promise to his sister, Ellie that he was going to find their dad in time for her wedding. But when he does find him, Chuck discovers that his dad is not necessarily a guy who wants to be found. He's living in a trailer, he's disheveled, he's paranoid and he's claiming constantly that Ted Roark (guest star Chevy Chase) -- who he used to work with -- stole all his ideas from him. In addition, Ted Roark has now become a super-successful software billionaire while Chuck's dad has become an eccentric, living in the shadows."
Sounds like a winner to me. Say what you want about Chevy, but I'm sure he can still pull it off!

And really, as long as Sarah is in the episode, it doesn't matter.

According to this story, Megan Fox might be playing Lara Croft in a new Tomb Raider movie. Take it with a HUGE grain of salt, but I'd love to see her running around in next to nothing stealing treasure, fighting bad guys and,well, raiding tombs. No, not THAT American Idol. A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet one of MY idols, TV producer, creator, writer, novelist, and sometimes actor Stephen J. Cannell. He's the man who created such shows as The Rockford Files, The Greatest American Hero and my favorite, THE A-TEAM. He was appearing at a Border's book store in La Grange, IL promoting his new book ON THE GRIND. Before the signing he gave a presentation about his life-which was FASCINATING-and his career and what made him jump from the boob tube to being a novelist. I haven't started reading ON THE GRIND yet, because I picked up one of his earlier books, WHITE SISTER, and I haven't been able to put it down. I'm going to go back and pick up everything in his Shane Scully sereis. So far, I'm really impressed.
-I got to talk to him about the recent Greatest American Hero comic(which has been a HUGE hit at my store)and he was very impressed that a "Comic Book Guy" turned out for one of his signings. It was a great experiance, and if you ever get the chance to meet him, you should go. He's awesome!
