This summer, things are going to get a little......congested. With a about 500 Secret Wars titles coming from Marvel and DC putting out old new versions of their new characters (wait, does that even make sense?), comic store shelves might be a little too packed and you might be a little confused about some things. The cure? ONYX, coming this July from IDW. It's the title that's going to stand out from the rest this summer, I promise you. Coming from the mind of writer Chris Ryall and artist Gabriel Rodriguez, here's the lowdown on this 4 issue mini-series.
"Onyx' tells the tale of a female metal-suited warrior who comes to Earth on a quest to either save the planet or destroy it. It’s up to a team of super-soldiers to figure out which before it’s too late, and before a much greater threat overwhelms both them and the planet itself"
-BUT, we don't have to wait until July to get a look at this book. In May, a 5 page stand alone story, Onyx #0 will be included in many of your favorite IDW comics. Stay tuned RIGHT HERE, for a TON of coverage on this awesome upcoming title. OK, look, you know I always try and give you something special, and if you promise not to tell anyone, I'll give you a special look at that awesome cover.....
I know, right? Gorgeous!! And yes, this is officially the first creator owned title that I'm absolutely overboard excited about.
PS-Any toy customizers out there think they can take a stab at making an ONYX figure? Hit me up!

What I thought of...Star Wars: Princess Leia #2!
Star Wars: Princess Leia #2: Leia continues her hunt for the remaining survivors of her home planet of Alderaan, and this issue it takes her to some very strange and familiar places.
The Good: Writer Mark Waid sure knows how to take advantage of the Star Wars Universe. More So, I think, than the writers of the other two Star Wars comics, but don't tell them that I said that. This issue Waid takes us to a place that's very important in Star Wars history, and for the first time ever, he makes it REALLY COOL!! After all, what we see in the movies 'taren the only locations that exist on this planet. More important than that, is the actual story of this issue. Leia is gathering up these last remaining Alderaanians at all costs. This book is a fantastic story that focuses on Princess Leia the smart, sassy, woman who won't let anything stop her. Let's talk about the art for a second. Terry and Rachel Dodson everybody!!! It's oddly wonderful that they can make the Star Wars Universe, which is classically a dirty, worn, and run-down place, look so wonderful. Part of that magic is the planet that this book takes place on, but most of it is the work of this incredible art team.
The Bad: The thing that annoyed me the most about this issue was that some creatures from the Prequels showed up, and I really couldn't remember which movie or where they came from. I've watched the original trilogy countless times, but the prequel trilogy, well, let's just say that I've watched them less. So, when those creatures showed up, I had to hit Wookieepedia. Other than that, no real problems with this issue.
The Verdict: BUY IT!!!! Mark Waid, the Dodsons, Princess Leia. Yeah, you don't need me to tell you what to do.

Spare some change.
Last Thursday the internet vomited after DC Comics revealed it's "new look" for it's three most popular heroes; Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman:
First off, Supermans "costume" is not a costume. If it is, I wear a Superman costume almost every day. Secondly, if you've been reading comics for less than 1 year, you're allowed to complain. If you've been reading comic books for MORE than one year, please, stop talking. You honestly believe that these costumes will be the way that Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman will look for the rest of time? Are you new? The second lesson that they teach you in Comics 101 is that "New Costumes never last". Am I wrong?
The only thing that never changes in comics (or in life, for that matter), is the fact that everything changes. If you don't like it, don't worry, it'll change back. Maybe not for a little bit, but it will. Does that mean you should just take everything you're fed with a smile? Of course not! But, if you're going to protest something do it the RIGHT WAY. Don't just bitch and moan to bitch and moan. If you're on Twitter, tweet at DC, not at me or all your other followers. Some of them might actually LIKE the changes. If you're on Facebook, post on Marvel's page, not everyone else's. They can't do anything about the fact that Wonder Woman has blades. So yes, protest, write emails, write letters (with honest to God paper, envelopes and stamps), use social media in its correct form, to let your voice be heard. Do you think everyone else has nothing better to do than listen to you bitch? Well, you're wrong. They do have better things to do. A LOT better things to do.
-And seriously, Wonder Woman having blades on her costumes does NOT make her any less of a powerful woman than Captain America having armor makes him less of a man.

Countdown to AWESOMENESS!! Star Wars: Shattered Empire!!!
Revealed earlier today on StarWars.com, is Marvel Comics' September launching "Journey to Star Wars:The Force Awakens-Shattered Empire" complete with an awesome illustration by artist Phil Noto. I gotta tell you, I haven't been this excited for Star Wars ANYTHING in years. Probably not since standing in line in the Eagle Rock Mall in Los Angeles, California in 1983 waiting with my Dad to see Return of the Jedi. Why? Well, with the prequels, we knew where the story was going. We didn't know HOW it was going to get there, but we knew how it was going to end. With Anakin Skywalker turning evil and becoming Darth Vader. This time? The sky's the limit! We have NO CLUE where any or all of this stuff is going, and sometimes, not knowing where you're going is pretty awesome. I'm guessing we'll find out a little bit of stuff at Star Wars Celebration next month, and then we'll find out a LOT more at San Diego Comicon this July. Either way, stay tuned right here for the best Star Wars COMIC coverage and reviews that I have time for.
Be EXCELLENT to yourself!!!!
On Wednesday, Boom Studios released Bill and Ted's Triumphant Return #1. It was a SUPER awesome comic, and if you didn't pick it up, you really need to. Here's a quick review:
Bill & Ted's Triumphant Return #1: Picking up about 5 minutes after Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, this comic finds the duo with a case of writers' block when it comes to writing their second song.
What's good: It's Bill & Ted. And, it's also EVERYONE from the second movie. Station, Rufus, The Good Robots Bill & Ted, and everybody else. It's a full-tilt comedy adventure story that's really true to the spirit of the movie. Also, the art is pretty awesome!!
What's bad: Hmmmm. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything in the book that I'd call "bad". There's a couple page time travel scene that happens off screen and impacts that exact moment of the book, which I had to read three times to figure out, but eventually it made sense.
The Verdict: BUY IT!!! It's Bill & Ted!!!! And, it's an awesome comic. What's not to love? Speaking of love, here's an episode of the underappreciated Bill & Ted cartoon:

What I thought of...Star Wars #3
Star Wars #3: Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie & Threepio are still stuck on the Imperial weapons factory PLANET, Cymoon 1. To put everything into a nutshell, Han & Leia are driving a stolen AT-AT that's about to fall apart, See Threepio's literally in pieces, and Luke is on his own kind of fighting Darth Vader.
The Good: Plenty! I don't know how much of a Star Wars fan writer Jason Aaron is, but he really knows his Star Wars. In addition to penning a kick ass story, what impresses me most is that Aaron captures the feel of Star Wars on the page. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this book feels like reading a movie. You can hear the dialogue being said by the actors, see the scenes playing out in your mind, and hear the music in your head. It's a rollercoaster ride, just like the films, but with a shock ending that makes me wish the wait for the next issue wasn't a whole month. Add to all this John Cassaday's artwork, and you've got a fantastic comic!
The Bad: Some vehicles from the prequels show up. Granted there were some pretty cool vehicles that were based on the old Kenner toys, but still. They seemed pretty out of place.
The Verdict: What? Seriously? Buy it!!!! It's awesome, and continues to be every month!!
