What I thought of...Star Wars #6!!!
Star Wars #6: This is....a not so pleasant issue. Now, what I mean by that is that, in this issue, some unfortunate things happen to the main cast of characters.Things were pretty bad when we left Luke, Leia and Wedge last issue and, believe it or not, they just get worse. On a side note, trade paperbacks usually collect the first 6 issues of a series. I really canNOT see this being the last chapter of a trade.
The Good: Even though our heroes get in a LOT of trouble this issue, it's really fun to watch. Like when you were a kid and would watch a scary movie with your hands over your eyes, but your fingers spread apart just enough so that you could still see what was going on. This is hard to do. Escpecially in a book like Star Wars. Let's be honest. We KNOW Luke Skywalker isn't going to die in this comic. We KNOW Darth Vader's not going to tell Luke his father in this comic. Yet, I felt an honest sense of urgancy when reading this book, as if anything can happen. Also, as usual, the art is FANTASTIC here. I LOVE Carlos D'Anda, and in particular I love the life and energy that he brings to this book. I hope he sticks around for awhile.
The Bad: Look, the only "bad" thing that I could come up with is the 30 day wait that we have before the next issue. Everything else is pure gold!
The Verdict: BUY IT!!BUY IT!!BUY IT!!BUY IT!!BUY IT!!BUY IT!!BUY IT!!BUY IT!!

HOWARD CHAYKINS BUCK ROGERS preview pages!!
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a HUGE fan of Buck Rogers. Recently Hermes Press announced that they have a brand NEW Buck Rogers comic series in the works by none other than the legendary Howard Chaykin!!! I KNOW RIGHT??!?!?!?!? Earlier this afternoon, Hermes was kind enough to pass along this preview pages from the first issue, which hits in August. Enjoy!!!!!
This book looks AMAZING!!! Stay tuned right here for much MUCH more coverage of this book in the future!!
What I thought of...Daredevil: Dark Nights #1
Daredevil: Dark Nights #1: This mini series finds Daredevil in trouble. I mean in REAL trouble. But, not from any sort of villain or cosmic threats, this time he's up against.............the weather. Yes. Seriously. And you know what? It's a pretty great book!!
The Good: Ladies & Gentlemen, I am SUPER pleased to announce that...LEE WEEKS HAS STILL GOT IT!!! Yes, that's right, he hasn't lost a step. Nope, not one bit. This story (both written and drawn by Weeks) is FANTASTIC!!! This is the kind of story that I've been in the mood for. A story that REALLY digs into the character, the motivation, the soul of Daredevil. We get a real sense of what makes Matt Murdock tick, and it's all nestled into a very entertaining and well executed comic story.
The Bad: The schedule. Why can't this be a biweekly book? It's by 3 different creators, you can't tell me that all of their chapters aren't done? I just want this book to come out quicker because I liked it so much!
The Verdict: BUY IT!!!! NO, do NOT want for the trade!! Seriously, it's that good!! And, you can visit this link for an interview with Lee Weeks about this series.

What I thought of...The Superior Spider-Man #11
The Superior Spider-Man #11: SPOILER WARNING FOR ISSUE #10! Now that Doc Ock/Spidey is 100% Parker-Free, it's time for "Spock" to go on an all out rampage right? No. Not really. Instead, he comes to the defense of New York City and Mayor J. Jonah Jameson when the Spider-Slayer gets loose and "rehabs" a couple of old Spider-Villains.
The Good: Although the "Spock" routine is getting more than a little old, there are still some entertaining bits and chuckles that are coming out of it. I don't know why, but Ock as Peter going to school for his Doctorate studying under his old rival always gets me. So, hats off for that.
The Bad: All right, for being 100% Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man's clothing, Doc Ock is acting pretty darn heroic. Now, I don't want to spoil the issue, but in this issue, there are a LOT of heroic things going on. And yes, I know that he now knows the "great power/great responsibility" thing, but he's still DOCTOR OCTOPUS!!!
The Verdict: Pass. Bottom line, it's really not that great of an issue and it might be better read in trade.

THESE ARE THE BIONIC MAN TOYS I'VE ALWAYS WANTED!!!!
Ever since I was old enough to know what action figures were and realize the difference between Star Wars and Buck Rogers, there was one toy that I wanted that I never got.. And that was the Steve Austin Six Million Dollar Man figure. Just look at this huge piece of awesomeness:
When I finally DID get this toy for my birthday, I was a little dissappointed to learn just how huge it was. All my other toys were 3&3.75", he was a GIANT compared to all of them. Well, I had to wait about 30 years, but guess what? I'm finally getting my 4 inch Steve Austin figure!!!!! Courtesy of Zica Toys, they just sent out this press release yesterday:
"Six Million Dollar Man Action Figures Official Announcement!
New from ZICA Toys, The Six Million Dollar Man retro style action figures! Get ready to travel back to 1974 and relive the adventures of the world’s first bionic man. Sculpted in 3.75” scale, these harken back to the heyday of action figures, when the designs were simple and the fun factor was off the charts!
Assortment 1 includes Colonel Steve Austin (red tracksuit) and Bionic Bigfoot. ZICA Toys has big plans for this line and is hopeful that vehicles and playsets will eventually be available. Variants and exclusives are also planned but rest assured that everyone will have a fair opportunity to get them. Preorders are expected to begin soon so keep checking your favorite online retailer for more info."
-Best news ever!!!!! They don't mention a SDCC exclusive, but here's hoping they can get one out by the con. I can't WAIT to get these!! I'll post figure reviews, plenty of pictures and other goodies, but you'll have to wait about a week or so between the time they come out and the time I get it done. Because I'll totally be playing with these in my backyard!!
